Pre-Configuration Checklist for New Managed Switch

Configure Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) to prevent loops.

Implement any additional security measures as per organizational policies.

6. *Monitoring and Management

Configure SNMP management to allow network monitoring tools access.

Set up syslog or event logging to collect switch logs for troubleshooting.

Configure SNMP traps for proactive alerting of critical events.

Enable port mirroring for network traffic analysis if necessary.

Set up any required management features like Link Aggregation or Port Mirroring.

7. *Testing and Verification

Verify connectivity by pinging devices on different VLANs/subnets.

Check for any network loops or spanning tree issues.

Perform bandwidth testing to ensure optimal performance.

Test different switch features like VLAN tagging, QoS, and access control.

Validate that all configurations are functioning as expected.

8. *Documentation and Backup

Document the switch configuration details including VLANs, ports, and settings.

Save a backup of the switch configuration for disaster recovery purposes.

Update network diagrams and documentation to reflect the new switch setup.

Ensure all relevant stakeholders are aware of the new switch configuration.

Store all documentation and backups in a secure location.
