Closing Checklist

  • Ensure all stoves, ovens, grills, fryers, and other equipment are turned off
  • Unplug any appliances such as toasters, microwaves, and coffee makers
  • Use designated cleaning supplies to thoroughly clean all countertops, cutting boards, and utensils
  • Sanitize equipment handles, knobs, and switches
  • Properly store any leftover food in airtight containers in the refrigerator
  • Dispose of any perishable items that cannot be saved
  • Count cash registers and secure all money in a safe
  • Lock up any valuables such as laptops, tablets, and personal belongings
  • Walk through the inventory storage areas and take note of items running low
  • Create a list of items to order for restocking
  • Activate the security alarm system
  • Ensure all doors and windows are securely locked
  • Gather all staff for a brief meeting to discuss any problems encountered during the shift
  • Brainstorm ideas for improving service or efficiency for the next day
