Disassembly of Cummings 12V diesel
Preparations

Engine Components
Drain the engine coolant and engine oil.

Label and disconnect all hoses, pipes, and connectors related to the cooling system.
Remove the exhaust system, including the headers and muffler.

Remove the engine accessories, such as the alternator, power steering pump, and water pump.
Disconnect the wiring harness and remove any sensors or switches attached to the engine.
Engine Block
Drain the engine block of any remaining coolant and oil.
Remove the cylinder head(s) by loosening the head bolts in a specific sequence.
Detach the intake and exhaust manifolds from the cylinder head(s).
Remove the timing cover and timing belt/chain, if applicable.
Take out the crankshaft pulley and harmonic balancer.
Remove the oil pan to access the lower engine components.
Loosen and remove the main bearing caps to separate the engine block halves.
Inspect and remove the pistons, connecting rods, and crankshaft from the engine block.
Remove the camshaft(s) and lifters, if applicable.
Miscellaneous
Inspect and remove any remaining components, such as the flywheel/flexplate, flywheel housing, and engine mounts.
Thoroughly clean all disassembled parts and components.
Organize and label all removed parts for easy reassembly.
Dispose of fluids and engine components properly according to local regulations.
