Preparation for Repair

Apply brake grease to the caliper bolts before reinstalling the caliper

Reinstall the caliper onto the rotor and tighten the caliper bolts

Check the brake caliper for any signs of damage or corrosion

Inspect the brake pad wear indicators to determine if the pads need to be replaced

Check the brake hoses for any signs of damage or leaks

Inspect the brake caliper piston for any signs of damage or corrosion

Check the brake fluid level and top up if necessary

Inspect the brake caliper slide pins for any signs of wear or damage

Bleeding the Brake System

Attach a clear plastic tube to the bleeder valve on the caliper

Have a helper pump the brake pedal while you open and close the bleeder valve

Continue bleeding the brake system until no air bubbles are present in the fluid

Top off the brake fluid reservoir with the recommended type of brake fluid

Ensure the brake fluid reservoir is kept at the proper level throughout the bleeding process

Use a wrench to open and close the bleeder valve, ensuring it is securely tightened after each bleed

Check for any leaks or signs of air in the brake lines before completing the bleeding process

Test the brake pedal for firmness and responsiveness after bleeding to ensure proper brake operation

Dispose of the old brake fluid properly and clean up any spills or drips

Final Checks and Testing

Reinstall the front wheels and tighten the lug nuts

Lower the vehicle off the jack stands and torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications

Pump the brake pedal a few times to seat the brake pads against the rotor

Test drive the vehicle to ensure the brakes are functioning properly and there are no unusual noises or vibrations.

Check the brake fluid level and top up if necessary

Perform a visual inspection of the brake components to ensure everything is properly aligned and secure

Check for any leaks or signs of fluid loss

Test the emergency/parking brake to ensure it is functioning correctly

Perform a brake performance test to ensure the vehicle stops smoothly and evenly

Verify that the brake warning light on the dashboard is off

Record all work done and any additional recommendations for future maintenance
