Ingredients
1 clove garlic
1 cup dry white wine
1 pound Gruyere cheese
1/2 pound Emmental cheese
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Freshly ground black pepper
Nutmeg (optional)
French bread or vegetables for dipping
Preparation
Rub the inside of the fondue pot with the garlic clove.
Pour the white wine into the pot and heat it gently until hot, but not boiling.
Grate the Gruyere and Emmental cheeses and set aside.
Creating the Cheese Mixture
In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with lemon juice until well combined.
Slowly add the cornstarch mixture to the pot while stirring continuously.
Gradually add the grated cheeses to the pot, stirring constantly until melted and smooth.
Season with freshly ground black pepper and nutmeg (if desired).
Serving the Fondue
Place the fondue pot on a burner at the center of the table.
Cut the French bread into bite-sized cubes or prepare the vegetables for dipping.
Each person should spear their chosen food item with a fondue fork and dip it into the hot cheese mixture.
