Preparation for Piston Pull

Review manufacturer's guidelines for piston pull procedure

Obtain necessary tools and equipment

Ensure proper personal protective equipment is worn

Verify that engine is shut down and all systems are properly isolated

Preparation of Engine Room

Inform engine room personnel of piston pull operation

Shut down main engine and secure all power sources

Ventilate engine room to remove any fumes or gases

Ensure all necessary tools and equipment are readily available

Remove any obstacles or obstructions in the engine room to allow for easy access to the main engine

Check and ensure all safety measures are in place, such as fire extinguishers and emergency stop buttons

Coordinate with other departments to ensure minimal disruption to ship operations during piston pull operation

Conduct a final safety inspection of the engine room before proceeding with the piston pull

Preparation of Piston

Drain lubricating oil from piston area

Remove cylinder head and exhaust valves

Disconnect piston cooling system

Disconnect fuel injection system

Remove connecting rod bolts

Secure lifting equipment for piston removal

Inspect piston rings for wear and damage

Removal of Piston

Loosen connecting rod bolts and remove piston rod

Use hoisting equipment to lift piston out of cylinder

Inspect piston for any damage or wear

Cleaning and Inspection

Clean piston and cylinder bore

Inspect piston rings for wear and replace if necessary

Check cylinder liner for any damage or scoring

Reinstallation of Piston

Install new piston rings onto piston

Lower piston back into cylinder using hoisting equipment

Reconnect piston rod and tighten connecting rod bolts

Testing and Commissioning

Conduct pressure test on cylinder to ensure proper sealing

Start main engine and check for any abnormal vibrations or noises

Monitor engine performance during sea trials.

Check for any leaks in the piston area

Measure and record piston clearance and alignment

Verify proper lubrication of piston and piston rings

Conduct a performance test to ensure the piston is operating efficiently and effectively

Monitor piston temperature during operation

Perform a final inspection of the piston and surrounding components before finalizing commissioning
