Inventory Management

  • Utilize a computerized inventory management system to record all material transactions
  • Document all incoming shipments including quantity, date, and supplier
  • Record all outgoing materials including quantity, date, and destination
  • Label storage locations clearly with item name, part number, and quantity
  • Group similar materials together to facilitate easy access
  • Utilize shelving or bin systems to keep materials organized and easily identifiable
  • Place newer materials behind older materials on shelves or in storage areas
  • Rotate stock regularly to ensure older materials are used first
  • Train employees on the importance of FIFO method and how to implement it
  • Schedule routine inventory checks on a weekly or monthly basis
  • Physically count all materials in stock and compare to recorded quantities
  • Investigate and resolve any discrepancies found during inventory counts
  • Set up automatic reorder points in the inventory management system
  • Track usage rates of materials to anticipate when reorders will be necessary
  • Communicate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of replenishment orders
