Exterior Inspection

  • Inspect all sides of the generator for signs of rust, cracks, or dents
  • Pay close attention to corners and edges where damage is most likely to occur
  • Remove any debris or obstructions from the air intake and exhaust vents
  • Use a flashlight to check for blockages that may not be immediately visible
  • Check the bolts and anchors securing the generator to the ground
  • Tighten any loose bolts or anchors to prevent movement during operation
  • Use a mild detergent and water to clean the exterior surfaces of the generator
  • Avoid using abrasive materials that could damage the paint or casing

Fluid Analysis

  • Collect a small sample of the generator's oil
  • Send the sample to a laboratory for analysis
  • Review the results for any signs of contamination or degradation
  • Use a pH strip to test the coolant
  • Check the levels against the manufacturer's recommendations
  • Inspect the coolant for any signs of corrosion
  • Collect a sample of the generator's fuel
  • Check for any signs of water contamination
  • Inspect the color and odor of the fuel for signs of degradation
  • Remove the battery caps to access the electrolyte
  • Use a hydrometer to check the specific gravity of the electrolyte
  • Top off any low electrolyte levels with distilled water
