Preparing for Oil Change
Gather all necessary tools and equipment (oil filter wrench, drain pan, rags, etc.).
Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface.
Allow the engine to cool down before starting the maintenance process.
Put on appropriate safety gear (gloves, safety glasses).
Draining the Old Oil
Locate the oil drain plug on the bottom of the engine.
Place the drain pan under the drain plug.
Unscrew the drain plug using an appropriate wrench.
Allow the old oil to completely drain out.
Clean the drain plug and reinstall it securely.
Replacing the Oil Filter
Locate the oil filter on the engine.
Use an oil filter wrench to remove the old oil filter.
Ensure the old gasket is removed with the old filter.
Apply a thin layer of new oil to the rubber gasket of the new oil filter.
Install the new oil filter hand-tight.
Refilling with Fresh Oil
Locate the oil filler cap on the engine.
Remove the oil filler cap.
Insert a funnel into the oil filler hole.
Pour the recommended amount and type of fresh oil into the engine.
Replace the oil filler cap securely.
Checking Oil Level and Quality
Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
Turn off the engine and wait for a minute to allow the oil to settle.
Locate the oil dipstick and remove it.
Wipe the dipstick clean with a rag.
Reinsert the dipstick fully and remove it again to check the oil level.
Ensure the oil level is within the recommended range.
Inspect the oil for any signs of contamination or discoloration.
If necessary, adjust the oil level or replace the oil.
Proper Disposal of Old Oil
Transfer the used oil from the drain pan to a suitable container.
Seal the container tightly.
Take the container to a local recycling or disposal facility.
Do not dispose of used oil in drains, sewer systems, or the environment.
Documenting the Maintenance
Record the date and mileage of the oil change.
Note the type and amount of oil used.
