Pre-Inspection Checklist

Mechanical Systems Inspection

  • Inspect motor for any signs of damage or overheating
  • Check drive system for smooth and consistent operation
  • Look for any visible leaks in hydraulic lines or connections
  • Test hydraulic system for proper pressure and function
  • Verify overspeed governor is functioning by simulating overspeed condition
  • Check buffer system for proper compression and rebound
  • Apply lubricant to bearings, gears, and other moving parts
  • Ensure proper lubrication to prevent excessive wear
  • Listen for any unusual noises such as grinding or squeaking
  • Feel for any excessive vibrations during operation
  • Open and close doors to check for smooth operation
  • Test sensors by obstructing door path to ensure they trigger properly
  • Press emergency stop button to halt elevator operation
  • Ensure elevator stops immediately when button is pressed
  • Activate emergency lighting to ensure it functions during power outage
  • Test communication system to ensure it connects to outside help
  • Inspect guide rails for wear, corrosion, or bending
  • Check rollers for any flat spots, wear, or misalignment
  • Check alignment by ensuring elevator car lines up with landing doors
  • Adjust alignment if necessary to prevent door jams or misalignment

Overall Inspection

  • Operate elevator to move between floors to assess smoothness of ride
  • Listen for any unusual sounds or sensations during operation
  • Listen for any strange noises while elevator is in operation
  • Feel for any vibrations that are out of the ordinary
  • Stop elevator at each floor and ensure it stops level with the floor
  • Check for any gaps or unevenness when doors open
  • Check for any debris, dirt, or spills inside the elevator cab
  • Inspect shaft area for cleanliness and any potential hazards
  • Test emergency phone to ensure it connects to a dispatcher
  • Check for clear reception and communication capabilities
  • Press emergency stop button to ensure elevator halts immediately
  • Verify that button resets properly after use
  • Check for any missing or damaged safety signs
  • Ensure that all safety information is current and legible
  • Turn on all lights and check for any flickering or dimness
  • Replace any burnt-out bulbs as needed
  • Test emergency lighting to ensure it activates during power loss
  • Replace any non-functioning emergency lights
  • Open and close each door to check for smooth operation
  • Look for any objects blocking the door tracks
