Preparation
Measure the desired amount of rice
Rinse the rice in a fine-mesh strainer under cold water until the water runs clear

Measure the appropriate amount of water or broth (generally 1:2 ratio of rice to liquid)
Place the rinsed rice and liquid in a medium-sized saucepan

Bring the liquid to a boil over medium-high heat
Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the saucepan with a tight-fitting lid

After the recommended cooking time, remove the saucepan from heat and let it sit, covered, for 5-10 minutes to allow the rice to steam
Fluffing and Serving
Remove the lid and use a fork to fluff the rice gently
Taste and adjust seasoning if desired (add salt, pepper, herbs, or spices)
Serve the cooked rice hot as a side dish or as a base for other recipes
Clean-up
Empty any remaining water from the saucepan and rinse it thoroughly
Clean the strainer used for rinsing the rice
Wash any utensils or tools used during the process
Wipe down the kitchen counter and stove if needed
