Asbestos Removal Procedures

Set up containment barriers using plastic sheeting and tape to isolate the work area from the rest of the building

Wet the ACM thoroughly to minimize the release of asbestos fibers during removal

Carefully remove the ACM, ensuring it remains intact and undamaged, using hand tools or other approved methods

Double bag the removed ACM in leak-tight containers labeled as asbestos waste

Clean the work area and surrounding surfaces with damp rags or HEPA vacuum to remove any residual asbestos fibers

Conduct air monitoring tests to verify the effectiveness of the removal process and ensure safe air quality

Waste Disposal and Documentation

Arrange for proper transportation and disposal of asbestos waste by licensed and authorized waste carriers

Complete all required documentation, including waste transfer notes and consignment notes, to track the disposal of asbestos waste

Maintain records of the asbestos removal process, including survey reports, removal plan, air monitoring results, and proof of proper disposal

Post-Removal Activities

Conduct a thorough visual inspection to ensure all asbestos-containing materials have been removed

Perform final air monitoring tests to confirm the absence of asbestos fibers in the work area and surrounding spaces

Decontaminate all tools, equipment, and PPE used during the removal process

Notify relevant parties that the asbestos removal has been completed and the area is safe for reoccupation

Update building records and asbestos registers to reflect the removal and any remaining asbestos-containing materials.
