Pre-Inspection Checklist (Before starting the vehicle inspection)

  • Check for the presence of tools and equipment required for the inspection
  • Verify that all tools and equipment are in good working condition
  • Ensure that any specialized tools needed for the inspection are available
  • Confirm that all personnel involved in the inspection are wearing the appropriate PPE
  • Check for the use of safety glasses, gloves, and any other required protective gear
  • Ensure that PPE is in good condition and properly fitted to each individual

Exterior Inspection

  • Visually inspect the entire body of the vehicle for any dents, scratches, or damages.
  • Pay attention to all areas including the front, sides, and rear of the vehicle.
  • Check the headlights by turning them on and ensuring they are functioning properly.
  • Inspect the taillights, turn signals, and brake lights by activating them and confirming their operation.
  • Inspect the windshield and all windows for any cracks or chips.
  • Carefully examine both the driver and passenger side windows as well as the rear window.
  • Check all mirrors, including the rearview mirror and side mirrors, for any damage or loose parts.
  • Ensure that the mirrors are properly adjusted to provide a clear view of the surroundings.
  • Check the tire pressure using a gauge and ensure it matches the recommended pressure.
  • Inspect the tread wear on all tires, looking for any signs of uneven wear or low tread depth.
  • Look for any damages such as cuts, bulges, or punctures on the tires.
  • Activate the windshield wipers and verify that they move smoothly and clean the windshield effectively.
  • Test the windshield washers by spraying washer fluid and ensuring it reaches the windshield.
  • Open and close all doors, including the hood and trunk, to ensure they operate smoothly and latch securely.
  • Check that all doors, hood, and trunk lock properly when engaged.
  • Verify that both the front and rear license plates are securely fastened to the vehicle.
  • Make sure the license plates are easily visible and not obstructed by any objects.

Interior Inspection

  • Check for any tears, stains, or damage to the seats
  • Inspect the seat belts for any fraying or signs of wear
  • Ensure that the seat belts properly latch and retract
  • Test the steering wheel for smooth operation and make sure it is securely attached
  • Check the pedals for proper movement and ensure they are not loose
  • Verify that all controls, such as turn signals and windshield wipers, are functioning correctly
  • Check that all gauges, such as speedometer and fuel gauge, display accurate readings
  • Ensure that warning lights and indicators, such as check engine light, are functioning correctly
  • Press the horn button and listen for a loud and clear sound
  • Ensure that the horn is not muffled or distorted
  • Inspect for any cracks, scratches, or damage to the dashboard
  • Check that all buttons and knobs on the console are in good condition and functioning properly
  • Test each door to ensure it opens and closes smoothly without any issues
  • Check that all windows can be rolled up and down without any difficulty
  • Verify that the door locks engage and disengage properly
  • Test the heating system to ensure it produces warm air
  • Check the ventilation system for proper airflow in different settings
  • Test the air conditioning system to ensure it produces cold air

Engine Compartment Inspection

  • Visually inspect all belts for cracks, fraying, or signs of excessive wear
  • Check hoses for any bulges, leaks, or deterioration
  • Ensure all belts are properly tensioned
  • Inspect battery terminals for corrosion or loose connections
  • Check battery voltage with a multimeter to ensure it is within the proper range
  • Inspect battery case for any signs of damage or leakage
  • Remove the oil dipstick and wipe it clean
  • Reinsert the dipstick fully and then remove it again to check the oil level
  • Inspect the oil on the dipstick for proper color and consistency
  • Locate the air filter housing in the engine compartment
  • Remove the housing cover and inspect the air filter for dirt, debris, or damage
  • Clean the air filter if it is still in good condition, or replace it if necessary
  • Allow the engine to cool down before checking the radiator and coolant levels
  • Remove the radiator cap and visually inspect the coolant level
  • Top up the coolant if necessary, ensuring it is within the proper range
  • Locate the brake fluid reservoir in the engine compartment
  • Check the fluid level against the minimum and maximum markings on the reservoir
  • Top up the brake fluid if necessary, using the recommended type
  • Locate the power steering fluid reservoir in the engine compartment
  • Check the fluid level against the minimum and maximum markings on the reservoir
  • Top up the power steering fluid if necessary, using the recommended type
  • Locate the windshield washer fluid reservoir in the engine compartment
  • Check the fluid level against the minimum and maximum markings on the reservoir
  • Top up the windshield washer fluid if necessary, using the recommended type
